Real Madrid decided to let their second choice Right Back Danilo leave for Machester City during the summer, & instead of signing a experienced replacement decided to promote their own youth product Achraf Hakimi to plug in the gap left by Danilo. Now two week ago, Carvajal was diagnosed with viral pericardium infection & due to the uncertain nature of his injury, Zinedine Zidane faces a problem on how to deal with Carvajal's absence, here are the 5 ways Zidane can fill the void left by Carvajal's injury:
1. Trust Achraf Hakimi
This is exactly what Zidane did during the match against Espanyol that was the first & only match Real have played since Carvajal injured himself against Dortmund. The youngster to his credit performed admirably considering that this was his Official Debut, but he is still only 18 years old and to expect him to fill in for Dani & playing at times three games in 8-9 days maybe to much too ask & may lead him to burning out instead.
2. Use Nacho as Right back
I am a big fan of Nacho not because he is a superstar but because he is the kind of unspoken hero who gives his all whenever required by the team, in whichever position he is required to play be it Left Back, Right Back, or Center of the defence. He always does an outstanding job and even after doing his best doesn't create a fuss when he is on the bench. So to simply put him in as a RB seems like a no brainer, right? Well, not exactly since just recently both Theo & Marcelo were injured he had to cover for them, now both of those players have returned to training but all I am saying is Nacho might be required elsewhere & his position is even more complicated by the fact that recently Real found themselves with Jesus Vallejo, Rafael Varane, & Sergio Ramos all unavailable & he had to play their with Casemiro at the center of defence.
3. Lucas Vazquez as makeshift Right Back
Zidane could ask Lucas Vazquez to be a Right Back as he has speed, good crossing & dribbling, & even though he is not a defender the guy has an unparalleled defensive rate & can run up & down the field all day, he was in fact used as a makeshift right back last season when Caravajal & Danilo were both unavailable in January. He could do a fine job at least against mid table La Liga sides.
4. Enter Sergio Ramos
Before Jose Mourinho converted Sergio Ramos into a Center Back he was considered one of the best Right Backs in the world, he won both Euro 2008 & World Cup 2010 as a Right back for Spain, his crossing is still great, even though over the years he might have slowed down & after playing around than five years as a Center Back he might be a little rusty but Ramos can easily slot in for Carvajal, & in the process can satisfy his constant urge to attack & score goals. While Nacho can cover for him as he is naturally a more left sided player.
5. Sign someone new in January
Well in case it becomes official that Carvajal will be out for a long time than this option will makes sense as in the long term all the before mentioned players cannot solve this problem & it would be sensible on Real's part to bring in a more well established Right Back than Achraf Hakimi as even though the kid has promise he cannot be asked or expected to fill in Dani Carvajal's massive shoes.
Well those are the options that Real could look into while Carvajal 's time on the sidelines remain uncertain. Which one do you guys think makes most sense?
We shall se how this situation unfolds, while wishing Dani Carvajal a speedy recovery.
